Linking files from SharePoint and Google Drive

Files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive can be linked directly in Scompler as material for Topics, Stories, and Articles. The integration provides a central overview of external files, while storage, access rights, and file maintenance remain within the connected systems.

Scompler allows files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive to be embedded as central material within Topics, Stories, and Articles. This makes it possible to reference external files from existing file repositories directly in Scompler without uploading or duplicating them.

Administrator note: To allow users to add links, the following permissions must be enabled for the corresponding user groups:

Adding files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive

Open the Topic, Story, or Article card and click Material. In the Links section, an external source can be selected via “Add new”.

After selecting Google Drive or OneDrive/SharePoint, the corresponding file browser opens, allowing you to search for folders and files. Once selected, the file is added to Scompler as linked material.

Note: If there is no active login, the corresponding login for Google Drive or OneDrive/SharePoint is displayed. After successful authentication, the respective file browser opens.

The permissions of the respective platform fully determine access to files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive.

Users can only select files to which they have access in the external repository. If access to a file is revoked at a later point, access via Scompler is no longer possible. Scompler does not independently check or manage file permissions but relies on the access mechanisms of the connected platform.

The file remains in its original storage location. In Scompler, a reference to the file is stored.

Unified link management in the “Material” tab

External files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive are treated as links in Scompler. These links are displayed centrally together with web links and local references in the Links section of the Material tab.

This ensures that all external references for a Topic, Story, or Article are available in one place, regardless of the source. File management is handled consistently via the Material tab.

Further information on web and local links can be found here.

Display of linked files

Linked files from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Google Drive are displayed in Scompler with a file-type icon and a source indicator (e.g. Google Drive or OneDrive). A preview of the file content within Scompler is not provided.

Likewise, no file-specific metadata from the respective platform is displayed, such as file owner or access permissions. Access to the file itself continues to take place via the respective platform and its permission system.
